From the food, jerseys, half-time entertainment, and commercials the Superbowl seems like a national holiday in most homes. I would have to say that my family and I also put effort into making lots of food and munchies and sitting around the T.V. Even if our team isn't playing in the Superbowl, it is kind of a day just to have fun with friends and family.
There is talk of injuries and missed practices of Colt's players. It is said that their star defensive end, Dwight Freeney has missed 3 practices due to a torn ligament in his ankle and Reggie Wayne injured his knee. The Colt's coach said that Wayne has been recovering through his injury during the season and that Freeney has been going through treatment and doing well since he arrived in Florida last week.
As for the Saints, they have had two players also miss practice. Randall Gay missed practice on Friday due to a stomach illness, but is listed as probable to be playing in the Superbowl. Lynell Hamilton is the other play to miss a practice or 2 due to a sore left ankle. He however is listed as questionable to play in the game. And as far as Jeremy Shockey who has been trying to nurse his right knee, he seemed to be involved in all the play at practices. The Saint's coach said that the team heads over to Drago's Restaurant for charboiled oysters, a ritual they do before each home game.
Now lets talk about that half time show... Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend will both be playing for half time. As Rock and Roll Hall of Famers they will bring both acoustic performance as well as a little bit of rock. The 2 of them answered questions for reporters on Thursday and also played a little introduction as to what they would be playing and doing at the Superbowl half time. After playing both of them joked how they will be playing for longer than the actual football players. They will be playing for about 12 minutes while statistics have shown that most football games consist of only 11 minutes of actual playing time. The two of them hoped for an entertaining game and not just a boring one, wanting the best team to come out on top.
I really hope it is an entertaing game as well. I love when games are down to the wire and intense. The kind that make you sit at the edge of your seat and at times even stand up yelling at the T.V. We all know that the refs can't hear us yell about a horrible call they make, the players can't hear us complain about how they need to make a catch and hang onto the ball, and the coaches can't hear us discuss what a bad play they chose to run. Although we all know this, we still seem to do it, it goes along with adding excitement and fun to watching the game though. The chips, dips, burgers, snacks, half time shows, and hilarious commercials really make the game worth while.

The Super Bowl for me is the same as yours. It is a holiday that is spent with family and friends. It seems like it should actually be a well known holiday that everyone should know and celebrate together. The Colts to me seem like the best team this season, because they were undefeated for quite sometime. As for the Saints, I am happy for them that they actually get to be seen in the Super Bowl for once. I am excited to actually see the halftime show be played by "The Who" and also enjoy the commercials as well.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't really all that excited for the Super Bowl this year as I usually am. My night consisted of chips and dip with my mom on the couch, and then missing the last 8 minutes of the game to drive back to VCSU in the crappy weather. Not the best Super Bowl I've ever experienced.
ReplyDeleteI don't really have a favorite NFL team, and the only team I really ever watch during the season is the Giants. However, I was pulling for the Colts to win and that didn't happen. Two wrong picks for two Super Bowls in a row for me. Ultimately, I was really hoping it would have been the Vikings that got into the big game. Because it would be obvious who my pick would have been there.
But wahoo for the Saints. My favorite commercial was the little boy Dorito one. And great closing paragraph Kalai. Totally agreed.
I love football and the Super Bowl so when this time comes around it is one of my favorite times of the year. My family and I love watching the game, my mom normally makes a whole bunch of food and we just pig out and watch the game. This year my team didn't make it, and so I had to choose another team to win this year, and I picked the Colts, needless to say I lost my bets. The Super Bowl isn't always about the game, the commercials and the family bonding time makes it more worthwhile even if your team isn't in the game. Your ending paragraph was a great one and I agree with it all the way.
ReplyDeleteSuper Bowl Sunday is as much of a Holiday as lets say Presidents Day. I'd personally would rather eat and watch commercials then to actually watching the game, unless my favorite team is playing in the game. The only sports event i believe that tops the Super Bowl is March Madness. Let's hope that KU can get it done again this year.
ReplyDeleteI personally think this years Super Bowl went way to fast this year, but thank goodness. I wanted the Vikings to go this year just because my family, but mostly my dad love the Vikings. Also to see Brett Favre win one more Super Bowl would be pretty cool. I would have to agree with you on the commercial part Kalai, they can get pretty hysterical at times and it makes the game more entertaining to watch.
