iPhone Rumor

There have been many rumors that the iPhone will now be available to Verizon customers in 2010. However, the article I read pointed out some facts that might point out this new iPhone could possible be just a rumor.

The article I read actually raised four ideas about this new rumor. The first being that we have heard this rumor multiple times before. It started appearing in 2008 and '09. So knowing this alone is something to make us wonder if it's just another rumor floating in the air.
The second idea is that rumors last spring were that the carrier's CEO told reporters that Apple probably wouldn't want to bring the iPhone to the company until its 4G network was set in place. As of now Verizon only has CDMA technology which is too dated and limited for Apple's interests. Verizon doesn't even expect to reach even a 66 % coverage level in America until 2012. However Apple could have altered its position on the Verizon CDMA issue knowing that it would take longer than expected to finish.

The third idea or issue is that Apple has a contract with AT&T, which no one knows the length or status of. Reports have guess that the deal may expire sometime in 2010 but there has not actually been an official report of this stat. Some believe that the launch of the iPad however, might have altered the length of the contract with AT&T a little more.

The last idea is that there is always benefits from the buzz and rumors of companies. Since this news of the iPhone coming to Verizon, both Apple and Verizon have shot up in stocks while other companies such as Research in Motion, Palm, and AT&T all took a hit.

I guess my opinion would be that I will believe it when I see it. I would bet that there would be many people that would purchase the iPhone if it did begin to be sold through Verizon. Verizon is the top cell phone carrier around here and they would make tons if they got a hold of selling the new iPhones.

  1. I agree with you, when you say you will believe it when you see it. I have also heard rumors about the iphone and verizon but we have all yet to see it. Verizon being the top cell phone carrier, I feel that they should have an iphone. The iphone is the hit phone of these days and I think they would really make a killing on selling the phone. One set back will probably the price for the internet. My girlfriend had an iphone and she used to have to pay for the talk and text plan plus the internet service which was $100. If Verizon were to get the iphone, hopefully their internet service plan wont be as much and they can make more money from people switching from at&t to verizon.
